Sometimes, on the corner of a street, magic happens. In the past four years, a pale angel with a golden voice has been enchanting the city of Berlin, her adopted home, with a raw passion and authenticity that couldn’t have remained unnoticed. Hailing from South Africa, Alice Phoebe Lou independently released her debut LP ‘Orbit’ in 2016, which sent her around the world and saw her performing three sold-out shows at Berlin’s Planetarium, perfectly in tune with the record’s cosmic blues and daydream jazz atmosphere. With stars in her eyes, yet firmly grounded, the soulful singer-songwriter still performs her beautifully honest songs in the streets whenever she’s not on tour.
This Friday will see Alice Phoebe Lou and her band play their first headline show in Brighton at Sticky Mike’s Frog Bar, where she will introduce new songs from Paper Castles, her upcoming second studio album. Sadly, the venue is due to close permanently by the end of the year, but if you should attend just one more show before then, let it be this one: Alice’s very own emotional, thoughtful, wild and generous indie-folk Wonderland.
